Day 6: Getting Detached
Quinlan started off life wanting to come out early to enjoy all the fun he heard his parents having, but did not realize what he signed up for: CPAP for 4 days, supplemental oxygen, and 4 days under the phototherapy lights. Finally with the umbilical line removed, his oxygen weaning and no more blindfolds, Quinlan started to show his appreciation and interact with us more. This included holding your finger in his hand, opening his eyes, and peeing all over dad & himself during a diaper change.
It is amazing the level of appreciation one can have in certain situations. Just a few days ago Quinlan was unable to open his eyes as they were swollen due to excess fluids, and now he is actively looking at you while voiding those fluids all over the clean diaper, bed & his parents. And your reaction: Good Boy, Quinlan!

Congratulations, Mazel Tov, and Felicidades to all! Melanie sent me the blog when I asked her about "her baby". This blog thing is a great idea! Tip#1 to prevent his "plumbing" from squirting all over, keep a folded cloth diaper (or anything similar) nearby when you change him. NMRK, Marlen (we met briefly in PA)
