Playing with Hands/ MD Update

Quinlan is discovering all kinds of things, including his hands. He was waving them around last night and staring at them in fascination: "do these belong to me?" He has also recently entered a more fussy time and had a mini-meltdown yesterday at 8 PM when dad was feeding him. Instead of giving him another 3 ounces, which would be a lot as he had just breast feed prior to receiving the first 3, we decided to try breast feeding again. We placed Quinlan next to mom in the bed, allowed him to latch on and suckle at will. He didn't even really suck, just fluttered, until he calmed down and then went right to sleep. He then slept for 4.5 hours, woke up breast fed for 20 minutes, and went back to sleep for 3.5 hours This is after 2 nights of horrible sleep. A growth spurt, perhaps?

We had our meeting with the maternal fetal medicine specialist yesterday. Quinlan was so well behaved as we visited the NICU and mom's work. He even sat through the 45 minute meeting with Dr. Greene the high risk OB in a wet diaper, which we discovered later. We found out that there is no known reason for Quinlan's early entrance into the world, and that the risk of a sibling also coming between 32 and 37 weeks only increases from 6% to 14%. Also, the literature does not support bed rest or progesterone injections to help carry the baby to term, and mom could still stay with the midwife practice if and when we decided to give Q a sibling. Right now, he is more than enough!
